30+ Years of Success The EPIC Story

Our story starts in 1976, when veteran and entrepreneur Doug Gans started selling lubrication and automotive equipment out of the back of his truck in Montevallo, Alabama. What started as a small-scale distribution operation led to a new career with Hunter Engineering, which significantly increased Doug’s knowledge and experience in the petroleum and auto service industries.

In 1990, that experience laid the foundation for the launch of Snag Equipment and Lubrication in Alabama. In its early years, Snag grew consistently by supporting auto shop operators across the Southeast with reliable equipment and outstanding service.

Within a few years, Snag Equipment moved into its first large commercial office, located in Alabaster, AL. The Alabaster location provided significant warehouse space for inventory and outdoor storage, further supporting growth and opened the door to significant customers with large-scale equipment needs.

During the early 2000s, the company continued to expand and began entering the first of what would become several major regional service contracts. One significant contract fueling this growth was our partnership with Love’s Travel Stops, providing equipment installation and service contracts for 20 of their locations across the Southeastern United States.

Partnerships with regional and national service center operators strengthened the company’s fleet and operational capacity while also driving vital capital investment into the business. We’ve since partnered with other top service center operators and automotive dealership groups and have cemented our reputation as the regional leader in bulk fuel, lubrication, and shop equipment solutions

Upon the original owner’s retirement in 2023, Snag Equipment and Lubrication entered a new and exciting era as it transitioned to new ownership. Starting this new journey created exciting opportunities for the Snag team and customers and inspired us to reimagine the brand with a bold new name and identity. During this time, we focused on our core strengths, the values that had sustained us, and our clear goals and hopes for the future. Following this introspective look and ownership transition, we became EPIC Equipment and Service Solutions.

Now operating as EPIC Equipment & Service Solutions, we are grateful for our past and look forward to our future. Our commitment to continuous improvement and innovation remains the same as we expand into new geographical areas and begin serving additional industries. EPIC is inspired by our legacy driven by our values and well equipped to successfully service our customers in the coming years.
